There are a number of ways to make money selling designs. It all depends on what type of designs you are trying to sell, really. There is a big demand for tattoo designs, for example. If you fell you have the artistic skills for that, it's a market you might like to try.

There is one easy way to make money selling designs. The designs you create can then be put on a variety of objects and you can sell them in your own online shop. One company in particular can do all this for you. They provide the products, you provide the designs, you sell the designed product and you make money.

1. Your design needs to be in digital form when you submit it. However, you can create it originally by hand, by brush with pain, or in whatever way you like. You can have it whatever size you like too as that will change when you finalize it.

2. Digitize your design by scanning it with a good quality scanner. It should be at the very least, 100 dpi, but aim for 300 dpi if at all possible. This will avoid pixilation where the edges of your design may start to look ragged instead of sharp and clear. You should save the digitized image in the .png format, rather than the .jpg format for best results.

3. Try to get your design image as close to the physical size of the product it will go on. For example, if it is a design for a T-shirt, it will be easy to measure a T-shirt of your own and guess roughly what size your design needs to be. A design on a coffee mug would be smaller, and so on. It doesn't have to be the exact size, but get it as close as you reasonably can.

4. Go to Cafepress and sign up for a free account. Read their terms and conditions and all the small print they have to fully familiarize yourself with all the conditions. This way you will actually know what it is you are signing up for.

5. On the top right-hand side of the main page of Cafepress you will see a text link: "Make your own custom products." Below that there are various links of specific products. Either locate the product you want your design to go on, or click on the main heading link and choose your product on the next page. There are over 40 different products to choose from.

6. Once you have chosen your product, you will have to upload your digitized design and add it to the product image. Follow the onscreen instructions to do this. Take your time and get this part just right. This is the product you are going to sell, after all, so don't rush things.

7. Cafepress make it easy for you to have your own little store where you can sell your products with your very own design. However, it's up to you to promote the store.

Do article marketing, set up a Squidoo lens that points back to your store, set up free ads on free ad sites - do whatever you can to promote your store and keep it up relentlessly working hard at the promotion for at least a solid month. You will make sales if you do.
