It can be easy to make money selling computers if you approach it the right way. You can start small or big, depending on what you can afford to put into the venture. If you can afford to spend several thousand dollars buying stock to resell it will be easier. But if you can only afford a modest amount you can still do it. You will simply take longer to build things up to the level you want.

1. Find a supply of computers. Decide whether you want to deal in laptop or desktop computers. Buying used computers from individuals is a very slow way to go, though you can. Try to find a wholesaler who will let you start off relatively small. You will have fewer problems that way.

A wholesaler should be able to supply you with new computers or refurbished ones. You won't need to check them over to see that they work properly. You won't have to delete things off the hard drive or worry about the possibility of the computer having a virus. You may have to check with several wholesale companies before you find one that is suitable.

2. Identify your customer. Do you want to sell computers to students? Or do you want to sell to families. Perhaps you would like to target small business owners who are strapped for cash. It's best to choose a niche in the market to target. Trying to be everything to everyone is usually too unfocussed.

3. You should have a website first and foremost. The website doesn't have to list every computer you have for sale, but it can. The website doesn't even have to sell the computers directly, but it can and probably should. The website will give your company much more credibility and you can refer to it from wherever you choose to sell the computers.

4. Use popular auction sites and advertising sites to sell your computers as this is probably the easiest way, at least in the beginning. Ebay is the largest auction site and should certainly be one you should target. Craigslist is a very popular advertising site and worth considering too.

Include all the technical details of the computer in each listing. It may seem like a lot of boring technical stuff, but those who know about computers will want to know all this, so give it to them straight off. Tell them about the operating system, the monitor, the memory, hard drive, softwares if any, the battery life, the graphics card, etc - leave nothing out!

Only sell one computer model at a time from each listing. You can sell 50 or more of the same model at a time. But stick to just one model per listing. If your listing is trying to sell every model you have, you will probably sell none. To sell another model, simply set up another listing.

5. Always tell prospective buyers what the shipping and postage charges will be. You may have to research this at the post office, or the carrier you plan to use. Make sure also that you use some form of tracking number and delivery confirmation, as well as insurance for each item you ship. You could also allow people living locally to collect their computers in person.
