To make money selling antiques you first have to acquire your antiques. This can be easier than it might seem as people usually don't know or appreciate the value of old items. What they might think of as junk can sometimes be worth a lot.

Learning how to recognize an antique is not something you can do in a few days, so devote as much time as possible to learning the basics and the essentials. Go to antique shops selling good quality items. Browse through these places and familiarize yourself with the kind of items you will be trying to source.

1. Thrift shops can sometimes be a good source for finding antiques. The great thing about thrift shops is the fact that they usually sell all items at a very low price. Locate all the thrift shops within your area and within a reasonable traveling distance too, and visit them regularly.

2. Garage sales or yard sales are another good possible source of antiques. Read your local paper for ads in this respect. Get to know about the garage sales and yard sales happening and make a habit of going to them and looking carefully through the items on sale. You won't always find an antique at a bargain price, but when you do it will be worth it.

3. Flea markets are another good possible source for finding antiques. Get to know where all the flea markets are in your area and be prepared to travel to other areas if there are markets worth visiting on an occasional basis.

4. Browse through the items you find in thrift shops, garage sales and flea markets carefully, for antiques won't have a label on them saying, "This is an antique!" You therefore need to be able to recognize the valuable from the worthless. There are many good books on the subject and some very good websites too. Study as much as you can.

5. Ebay is an obvious place to sell your antiques. You will find many listings there of people already selling antiques. Bear in mind however that the people browsing the pages of Ebay are looking for bargains. This may not be a problem, but it's worth remembering.

6. Craigslist is another good outlet for selling antiques. The people who browse and search the pages of Craigslist are also looking for bargains, but perhaps less so. One advantage of using Craigslist is that you can target specific cities and areas.

7. Set up your own website and promote it heavily to make it rank well in the search results for antique related search terms. This is one way where you have complete control. You can list what you want and when you want, selling your antiques directly from the pages of your website. Don't use a free website platform though. Be as professional as possible.

In order to make money selling antiques there is a fair amount of work involved. However, it can be a very lucrative business for those who have a love of antique items. You could specialize, for example, by selling only antique jewelry or antique furniture. The possibilities for those who are determined are endless.
